Information regarding CORONA/COVID-19

Letter to our salad friends,

Let’s be honest. It´s is not business as usual…not even close. In a world where things we have learned to rely on, suddenly are taken away – nothing is normal. Being something that people can count on is rapidly becoming crucial in our society. Food and groceries are at the top of that list. We are facing a fact were restaurants and cafes are closing down and our grocery stores are rapidly becoming their only source people can count on for food – especially fresh, green and healthy alternatives to tins and cans.

We, and our customers, saw this company grow from a brilliant idea (honestly, it is!), to a salad bar, to a salad bar company, to one of the most admired European healthy fresh companies. No challenge has ever been too big. No obstacle too high. Today we find ourselves in the biggest and most challenging times ever. We now operate more than 2.100 salad bars in 7 countries and consequently function as a backbone for supplying fresh convenient food in multiple European markets. With an increasing concern for public health and the spread of new Corona virus, we feel it is important to keep you close and share what we are doing to create trust and accountability.

We are closely monitoring the following key areas to ensure we are doing everything it takes to offer you fresh and convenient food.

In times of confusion and misconceptions, we turn to authorities. For example, according to EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) there is no evidence that food is a likely source or route of transmission of the COVID-19. Read more here.

Our technology lives and breathe food safety. Through for example automated hand sanitizer dispensers, low open shielding hoods, advanced cooling systems and ventilation, rigid sanitation routines and traceability – food safety is kept at higher levels than any other salad bar. There are, frankly and with all due respect, higher risks involved in touching a public door handle.

We follow national and international updates and recommendations, take immediate actions based on those, right now and for as long as it takes.

We are more convinced than ever that the world needs the opposite to junk food. Millions of people have learnt to rely on us as a source for fresh, healthy and convenient food.

With all our thanks,

David & the entire Picadeli family

Q & A

Is it dangerous to eat salad from your salad bar?

As world citizens and food lovers, we are thankful for this: The distribution of the Corona Virus is not linked to food, says European health authorities (read more here).

The Corona virus is a human to human transmitted virus and it is spread in close contact between people. It cannot grow in food.

Since the new Corona virus cannot grow in food there are not an enlarged risk being exposed to the virus from the food in the salad bar.

How come you do not shut down your salad bars in this phase of the corona pandemic?

European health authorities say new Corona virus can’t grow in food. AND that there is not any enlarged risk of being exposed to the virus from the food in the salad bar (read more here). (Our Salad bars say they always knew that, but thanks for checking in on us.)

How come you have shut down your salad bars?

As the rest of us some of the store personel also need to stay at home due to authurities recommendations or to take care of their children.

Due to the lack of staff in our stores, some of them have choosen to shut down parts of their range at the moment. This seems to be the main reason for temporary shutting down salad bars.

Thankfully, this does not apply to all stores — and hopefully we will soon see an end of this challenging situation.

Can Picadeli offer pre-packaged products that you can put in the salad bar?

Soooo happy that you asked! We are looking into this at this very moment and hopefully there will be a solution in place very, very soon. (Crossing fingers!)

How does Picadeli work with food safety?

Food safety is part of our core, it has always been and shall always be. Even though we already have meticulous routins in place, we have requested the stores to increase the cleaning and to make sure the hand sanitizing is refilled.

Also our technology lives and breath food safety. Through for example shielding hoods, advanced cooling and ventilation, rigid sanitation routines and trackability – food safety is kept at higher levels than any other salad bar. There are, frankly and with all due respect, higher risks involved in touching a public door handle.

What steps has Picadeli taken to improve the hygiene at the salad bar?

How does Picadeli relate to Corona and the spread of infection?

Have many stores closed down their salad bars?

Hard to say and this also changes from day to day due to the lack of recourses in our stores, some of them have choosen to shut down parts of their range at the moment. This seems to be the main reason for temporary shutting down salad bars.

Thankfully, this does not apply to all stores—and hopefully we will soon see an end of this challenging situation.
